A collection of rare and excellent photographic record of the past, this was Paul’s works from the 1980s when the Dong area was still extremely inaccessible and largely unknown. In those days most farmers were still at home keeping their simple ways of life as before. The elders were always spending their time leisurely around the covered bridges and drum towers. Ladies were hitting their home-woven cloth with big wooden hammers for a glossy look. Some also prefer putting on coatings of egg white to intensify the glossiness. Women were chatting in front of the wooden houses while doing needle works and baby sitting… In this book Paul was able to capture these peaceful everyday scenes in the Dong villages, as well as recording and preserving in excellent photography many other precious heritage in festivals and celebrations, before the full swing of modernisation.
